"Technical education determines competence, but quality experience motivates future nurses. The LPN scholarship has begun to do just that for me."

NURSING SCHOLARSHIPS
The Story
A nursing shortage in 1982 was responsible for the creation of the Mercy Hospital School of Practical Nursing. As the nursing shortage has become more acute, the school has grown from an original class of 12 students to its current enrollment of 90 students.
Newly renovated space is now available to accommodate this growing student body. Of the 1000 graduates, more than 90% have passed the state LPN licensure exam, and 80% have continued towards completing their RN program while continuing to work. This is an exceptional feat considering that students in the Mercy program are culturally diverse, older than traditional students, and from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Many are single mothers and the recipients of some form of public assistance.
The students is the fulfillment of the American dream, to have a career, and become economically secure members of the community. Mercy's goal in sustaining and expanding this program is the alleviation of a critical nursing shortage and the maintenance of compassionate and quality patient care.
The Need/Support Opportunities
Students are not able to enroll without scholarship assistance and often other forms of supportive services.
Student scholarship funds.
Contributions to a newly established Scholarship Endowment Fund
which would reduce the annual pressure to secure the needed scholarship funds.
Computer software and laptop computers to facilitate student self-study.
An endowed faculty chair.
A Donor for whom the new school could be named.
An Emergency Fund to be used when a student, who is
otherwise managing, is suddenly faced with an unexpected problem.
Your generosity will help make a difference!
