Mercy Foundation Receives $500,000 from Ocean Bank
to provide state-of the art radiation therapy technology to
"Ortega Bonet Miami Cancer Center" at Mercy Hospital

This generous gift has been designated specifically for the purchase of Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) technology for cancer patients. This state-of-the-art image-guided radiation therapy enables the use of higher, more effective doses of radiation because, as a result of increased precision, there is far less risk that the radiation will damage nearby healthy tissue.

Currently, IGRT technology is not available in any hospital in Miami-Dade County. Dr. Raul Ravelo, Vice Medical Director of Radiation Oncology at Mercy Hospital, has received the training in the application and operation of this modality. Having the technology at Mercy Hospital will bring benefits to oncology patients who are treated at the "Ortega Bonet Miami Cancer Center", a center that has been recognized as a consistent leader of excellence in the field of oncology.
