"ME & MY DADDY" CHILDREN'S FASHION SHOW
IS A HOLIDAY SUCCESS!!

Dads, Grand-dads, & Uncles were super-models for the day as they walked down the runway with their adorable daughters & sons, grandkids and nieces & nephews. On Saturday, December 6, the high energy holiday musical fashion show went off without a hitch and gave the nearly 50 models a chance to show off their best holiday fashions. Leading the models down the runway was Grammy Award winning recording artist Jorge Moreno and his adorable son, Romeo.

Adults enjoyed specialty cocktails provided by Atlantico Rum while the kids took photos with Santa. The unique fundraiser benefiting Mercy Hospital was hosted by the Conrad Miami on Brickell Avenue and the Ambassadors of Mercy Foundation, a support group of Mercy Foundation that focuses on bringing new friends and donors to the hospital in order to raise funds for hospital programs and services.  

 “We would like to give special thanks to the Conrad Miami for hosting one of our most successful and fun fashion shows. Many, many thanks are also in order for Manny Alonso, our event chair and Fashion Show Coordinator, who works tirelessly every year to help bring this event together,” said Josie Romano Brown, President of Mercy Foundation.   “I would also like to thank the morning’s most gracious emcee, Beatriz Canals, for all of her support. Thanks again to all of the families who participated in the fashion show.”

Special recognition was also given to the event chairs Manny & Eileen Alonso, Jesse León & Angela Puentes-León, Melisa & Carlos Chantres, Melissa Hernandez & Michael J. Alvarez, Dr. Marilu Madrigal & Mr. Brian Lawrence, Josie & Manny Vadillo and Janette Zayas-Bazán & Jorge Uribe.

The Mercy Foundation is the principal fundraising arm of Mercy Hospital. A volunteer board of directors comprised of community leaders and key supporters manages it.  In the last five years, the Foundationhas been instrumental in the success of many valuable projects and community outreach programs, including the St. John Bosco Clinic, the School of Licensed Practical Nursing, the Ortega Bonet Miami Cancer Center, the Kohly Center for Rehabilitation and the Colt Neuro-Intensive Care Unit.  The Foundation was successful in raising $15 million during the VISION campaign for the expansion and renovation of the Emergency Department.

"The city's biggest philanthropists gather to commemorate Mercy's Gala's 20th anniversary"

More than 600 of Miami’s most notable philanthropists, community activists and business leaders, whimsical dancers, an auction full of fantastic pieces of artwork as well as opportunities to visit exotic destinations, and some of the most respected corporations in South Florida, all came together for a spectacular fundraising event for Mercy Hospital on Saturday, October 11th at the InterContinental Hotel Miami. 

The Mercy Foundation’s annual gala was an amazing and beautiful success in every respect.  Guests entered the fabulous cocktail reception adorned with décor to fit the theme from gorgeous tropical arrangements to perfectly sculpted ice bars.  The dining room doors opened to stunning tall centerpieces filled with vibrant flowers including birds of paradise and sparkling votive candles graced the tables that filled the room. 

Josie Romano Brown, president of the Mercy Foundation, greeted all in attendance and gave warm thanks for their participation in celebrating the greatest gift of all, saving lives, and the preservation of good health.  Subsequent speakers included Sister Elizabeth Ann Worley who gave the blessing; Mr. John Johnson, the newly appointed President of Mercy Hospital, who underscored the pivotal role the gala plays in helping the Foundation reach its goals; and Dr. Luis Villa, gala chair, who provided the moving
introduction of the night’s honoree, Mr. Harve Mogul, CEO of the United Way of Miami-Dade County, the recipient of the 2008 Monsignor Bryan O. Walsh Humanitarian Award.  Mr. Mogul then spoke to the attendees about his commitment to the community and his sincere appreciation for being named this year’s award recipient by Mercy Hospital, one of this area’s most important and well-respected hospitals. 

Additional individuals recognized in the program included 2008 PARADISO Gala Chairs Dr. and Mrs. Luis Villa and Dr. and Mrs. Antonio L. Argiz; Gala Journal Chairs Drs. Michele Astarita and Omar Gallardo; Gala Auction Chair Sergio Barrera and the gala co-chairs and committee, who worked hard to make this a spectacular and successful event. 

The program was followed by a fabulous dinner, dancing to the music of Willy Chirino, and an exciting live auction.

"AMBASSADORS OF MERCY HOST THE18TH ANNUAL GOLF CLASSIC TO BENEFIT MERCY HOSPITAL "
"The Annual Golf Classic offers fun and friendly competition for a worthwhile cause "

The Ambassadors of Mercy, a support group of the Mercy Foundation, hit the links of the championship golf course at Doral Golf Resort and Spa on May 30th.  This highly popular tournament, celebrating its 18th year, benefits Mercy Hospital.

Forty seven teams of foursomes consisting of members of the Foundation, community leaders, hospital staff and supporters, played 18-holes to raise funds for clinical programs, state-of-the-art technology, diagnostic equipment, and much more. The winners of the Red course included Orlando Roche, Stephen Taylor, Ary Velasco Sr. and Ary Velasco Jr.  The winners of the Gold course included Ray Levy, Jesse Hobbs, Peter Joseph, and George Tsitouris. With the help of generous sponsors including Gold Level Sponsor Florida Coca Cola and Silver Sponsors Arellano Construction, Jones Lang LaSalle, and Wolpe & Leibowitz, this year’s event raised the largest amount generated thus far.

 “The annual Golf Classic is one of our most important fund raising events of the year,” says Ron Mann, Golf Committee Chair. “This year was especially exciting because it was our most successful one to date.”

"The Annual Fundraising Event Continues On a Winning Streak"

On a night where modern Vegas-style gaming meets nostalgic 1950’s Havana style the Ambassadors of Mercy and the John Hancock Financial Network hosted an exceptional evening of dining, music, games and prizes on Saturday, May 3rd. The more than 350 attendees danced and gamed the night away to raise funds for the many new projects and programs of Mercy Hospital. At the always beautiful Grove Isle Resort & Spa, set in the terrace overlooking Biscayne Bay, guests sipped on finest spirits and enjoyed cigars.

Chairing the event for a fourth time were Vince and Lisa Castro, with the support of a dedicated host committee. Havana Nights is one of the Ambassadors of Mercy Foundation’s most celebrated events. The Ambassadors of Mercy, a young professionals group, host numerous events throughout the year to benefit the hospital. In 2007, the Ambassadors donated $100,000 to purchase and install the PACS system, giving physicians direct access to al their patient’s imaging information at the point of care in the nursing stations.

More than 700 of Miami's most notable philanthropists, Mercy physicians, community activists and business leaders, a nouveau oriental show at the cocktail hour, an auction full of fantastic pieces of artwork as well as opportunities to visit exotic destinations, a presentation of Tiffany jewelery by models wearing gowns of Gustavo Cadile's collection, Willy Chirino, and some of the most respected corporations in South Florida all came together for "Mystique", the fabulous october 2007 Gala for Mercy Hospital.

The 2007 gala, "Mystique", was a tremendous success thanks to Gala Chairs, Mr. and Mrs. Jose A. Concepcion and Dr. and Mrs. Jorge E. Echenique; our Journal Chairs Dr. and Mrs. Raul Ravelo and our Auction Chair Ben Mollere. The Foundation was pleased to honor Dr. Eduardo J. Padron, president of Miami Dade College as the recipient of the 2007 Monsignor Brian O.Walsh Humanitarian Award.

The Children's Fashion show to benefit Mercy Hospital was held on Saturday, June 9th at the Conrad Miami on Brickell Avenue.  The day of fun and fundraising was put on by the Mercy Foundation Ambassadors, a support group of Mercy Foundation that focuses on bringing new friends and donors to the hospital to assist with hospital programs and services.  Chairing the event were Manny and Eileen Alonso, Carlos and Maria Arazoza, Dany Garcia Johnson and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

The exciting event was a highly-charged musical fashion show featuring nearly 50 models, ranging in age from infants to teenagers, escorted by their dads, and in some cases, grand-dads and uncles.  A special appearance by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson charmed the crowd as he strolled down the catwalk with his five-year-old daughter, Simone.

The children of the family and friends of Mercy created their own personalstyles to strut down the catwalk - donning some of today’s hippest fashions. The children and proud dads, all of who were dressed to the nines and knowing it, received enthusiastic rounds of applauds from the camera-frenzied crowd of parents, grandparents, siblings and friends.

"AMBASSADORS OF MERCY HOST THE 17TH ANNUAL GOLF CLASSIC"

The Ambassadors of Mercy, a support group of the Mercy Hospital Foundation, hit the links of the championship golf course at Doral Golf Resort and Spa on Monday, May 7th. Mercy Foundation’s annual golf classic offers fun and friendly competition for a worthwhile cause.

The most exciting event of the day was the Hole-In-One hit by participant Julian Pratt! For this major accomplishment, Pratt won a Honda SUV donated by Brickell Motors. The winners of the Red course included Mr. Alex Anez, Dr. Pete garcia, Mr. Gus Iglesias and Mr. Jorge Hernandez. The winners of the Gold course included Mr. Bill Grossman, Mr. Kenny Sokolov, Mr. Rolando Alfonso and Mr. John Horn.

More than 200 members of the Foundation, community leaders, hospital staff and supporters played 18-holes to raise funds for the Emergancy Department expansion, state-of-the art technology, diagnostic equipment, and much more. The round of golf was followed by an award ceremony and dinner.

"AMBASSADORS OF MERCY FEEL THE THRILL OF HAVANA STYLE GAMBLING AT THE
4TH ANNUAL EVENT"

The Mercy Foundation and the Ambassadors of Mercy hosted another extraordinary evening of dining, music, casino games and prizes in a spectacular "Havana Nights-style on Saturday, April 28th. The attendees, most of whom decked out in Guayabera Chic or attire not seen since the days of Tropicana, danced and games the night away to benefit the many new projects and programs of Mercy Hospital, including the renovation and expansion of the Emergency Department.

This popular fund raising event, which drew approximately 500 people this year, included roulette, black jack, craps, poker and many chances to win fabulous prizes. It has held at a spectacular private residence in Gables Estates. Chairing the vent for a third time were Vince and Lisa Castro with the support of a fantastic host committee.

The Angels of Mercy, a support group of the Mercy Hospital Foundation, and Saks Fifth Avenue Dadeland hosted an evening fashion show on Saturday, January 20th at the InterContinental Miami.With more than 300 guests in attendance, the much-anticipated event included a fashion show by Saks Fifth Avenue Angel Sanchez Spring 2007 Collection, cocktail reception, wonderful dinner and an evening of dancing.

The event was held to support the mission of the Mercy Foundation as well as to honor Reverend Father R. Alberto Cutié, President and General Director of Pax Catholic Communications; Marlen Pernetti, Community Volunteer; Dr. and Mrs. Sanford Ziff, Philanthropists; and Lourdes Castillo de la Peña. The honorees are being recognized for their remarkable and ongoing contributions to the community. The chairpersons of the event were Helen Aguirre Ferré, Laura de Oña, Remedios Díaz Oliver, Lilliam Machado and Lisa Tannebaum.

The highlight of the event was the highly charged fashion show featuring “The Mercy Models.”This elite group chosen to walk the catwalk included Dr. Glen Barquet, Dr. Rolando de Leon, Dr. Jeffrey J. Gibson, Dr. Eddie Gomez, Dr. Pieter Hommen, Dr. Luis Villa as well as Mercy Hospital CEO John Matuska

"AMBASSADORS OF MERCY GET GOOKING AT THE INTERACTIVE CULINARY FEST"

The Interactive Culinary Fest was a terrific fundraising event for Mercy Foundation! The Ambassadors of Mercy duplicated the “casual and fun” formula for success of the previous year resulting in an even better event this past November.

The event was a chance for gourmets to roll up their sleeves and work side by side with the Biltmore Hotel’s finest chefs to create culinary masterpieces – right at their own table.

“The culinary feast was magnificent, and gave wine and food lovers an excellent opportunity to have fun while supporting one of our community’s most respected medical institutions,” said Brian Tannebaum, President of the Ambassadors of Mercy. “This year we took the Interactive Culinary Fest to new heights and we are grateful to all the supporters and sponsors, including AvMed Health Plans, Bacardi, Cardinal Health, Jones Lang LaSalle and Pine Ridge Winery, that helped raise much needed funds for Mercy Hospital

The Mercy Foundation’s annual gala was an amazing and beautiful success in every respect.  Guests entered the fabulous cocktail reception adorned with décor to fit the theme from gorgeous aqua and green backdrops to perfectly sculpted ice bars.  The dining room doors opened to stunning tall centerpieces of green and vibrant yellow on ocean blue tablecloths on the tables that filled the room.  Josie Romano Brown, president of the Mercy Foundation, greeted all in attendance and gave a warm thanks for their participation in such an important cause – this year’s initiative, to raise money for $15 million for VISION, the fundraising campaign for the new emergency department at Mercy Hospital.  

Subsequent speakers included Sister Elizabeth Ann Worley who gave the blessing; Victor Balestra, Chairman of the Board of Mercy Foundation, who underscored the pivotal role the gala plays in helping the Foundation reach its goals; and Sergio Pino, gala chair, who provided the moving introduction of the night’s honoree, Jose A. Concepcion, president and CEO of Ocean Bank and recipient of the 2006 Monsignor Bryan O. Walsh Humanitarian Award. 
Mr. Concepcion then spoke to the attendees about his commitment to the community, specifically in the areas of health and education, the importance of taking leadership roles in local charities, and his sincere appreciation for being named this year’s award recipient by Mercy Hospital, one of this area’s most important and well-respected hospitals. 

Additional individuals recognized in the program included Mercy Hospital president John Matuska, 2006 ACQUA Gala Chairs Mr. and Mrs. Sergio Pino and Dr. and Mrs. Juan Carlos Fleites; Gala Journal Chairs Dr. and Mrs. Raul Ravelo, Gala Auction Chair Ben Mollere, Jorge Luis Lopez, Chair of VISION, and Dany Garcia Johnson, Honorary Chair of VISION.  The program was followed by a fabulous dinner, dancing to the music of salsa recording artist Willie Chirino and an exciting live auction.

General Motors contributed to the atmosphere by placing three of its most notable cars on display. They included a GMC Yukon Danali at the entrance steps to the hotel and, in the cocktail reception messanine, a Buick Lucerne and a Pontiac Go Convertible. Guests, had the opportunity to preview the vehicles and all their latest features.

"THE COSTA FAMILY FOUNDATION AND MERCY FOUNDATION CELEBRATE THE NEW LOBBY AT
MERCY HOSPITAL"

While many areas of Mercy Hospital have been updated and expanded upon, the time has come for the lobby to receive its facelift. Thanks to a donation by the Costa Foundation to the Mercy Foundation, the hospital now has a beautiful modern lobby. The Costa Foundation's generous gift of $250,000 provided the financial support necessary to embark on this exciting part of Mercy Hospital's evolution.

The Mercy Foundation and the Costa Family hosted a lovely cocktail reception on Thursday, July 13 to celebrate and bless the lobby. A larger than life representation of Carlos Costa and his mission by local artist Carlos Navarro was previewed during the event and will remain on permanent display. In attendance at the reception were friends and members of the Mercy Foundation, members of the medical staff, and close friends and members of the Costa family. The blessing of the lobby was performed by Father Juan J. Sosa of St. Catherine of Siena Church and words from the Costa family, the champagne toast and dedication of painting by Carlos Navarro were done by Michael Mendez, nephew of Carlos Costa and president of the Costa Family Foundation.

The day of fun and fundraising was put on by the Mercy Foundation Ambassadors, a support group of Mercy Foundation that focuses on bringing new friends and donors to the hospital to assist with hospital programs and services. Chairing the event were Manny and Eileen Alonso, Dany Garcia Johnson and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson with Co-Chairs Maria Figarola Arazoza, and Dr. Karin Arnold Dobal.

The exciting event was a highly-charged musical fashion show featuring nearly 50 models, ranging in age from infants to teenagers, escorted by their dads, and in some cases, grand-dads and uncles. A special appearance by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson charmed the crowd as he strolled down the catwalk with his four-year-old daughter, Simone.

Merrick Park retailers, including Babycottons, Fila, and United Colors of Benetton, provided the children of the family and friends of Mercy with the hippest fashions to strut down the catwalk.
